Having fun with my fabric panels.  For the past week, I've been sketching ideas for using my fabric panels.  I love to use my panels in bags, totes and purses and mug rugs . . . but what else could I create?  I love birds and butterflies and anything with wings and ideas of journey and fearlessness . . . and sketched birdhouses, homes, houses, lighthouses . . . homes of all kinds, which is also a symbol I enjoy using in my art.  Home, a sense of belonging, a safe place to be . . . home . . . a feeling in the heart that gives me the freedom and gratitude to be me.

These sketches and journal entries started a new "Home" series using my fabric panels. This is the first quilt . . . my sketches and ideas come to life.  More to come . . .

If you've purchased my fabric panels, this is an example of how you can use them.  Use this as inspiration for your next project.

This quilt took less than four hours to complete.  This was easy to make.  See all the embellishment possibilities?  Once I work things out, I'll make this pattern available to my customers in my Etsy shop.  Enjoy!

Love and Aloha, or The Spirit of Aloha, was inspired by my daughters Ku'ulei and Ku'uipo. Ku'ulei means "Sweet Blossom" and Ku'uipo means "Sweetheart" or "My Beloved." The Spirit of Aloha is about the giving and receiving of unconditional love. This is the kind of love I know. It is the kind of love I was taught by my parents and caring family members and friends. It is the kind of love I try to practice each and every day, though oftentimes imperfectly. It is the kind of love I hope I have taught my daughters and grandchildren. It is the kind of love I hope for all to experience on a regular basis. It is the kind of love that will heal the world.

Love and Aloha. The Spirit of Aloha. Unconditional love.

I am attempting to bring attention to the importance of unconditional love and fearlessness to the world one painting at a time.

Painting is my Meditation

Painting is a time I meditate.  I usually think about the events that are in my life at the moment, and that means I'm thinking about the things I'm grateful for: my family, my husband, my daughters, my grandchildren, etc.  I feel love and joy and think about the next time I get to see them and be able to play hide-and-seek with my grandchildren, paint with Kiki, play music and sing with my daughters and Tremayne, and spend reading time with my husband.  All these events are about love, nurturing relationships, sharing and elevating one another.  I call this experience "magic."

I paint because I want to; sometimes because I need to, to express what's in my heart.  

I don't think about making a sale or if anybody will like my art.  I just paint.  So when customers buy my fabric panels, made from my paintings, I feel grateful, happy that it brings joy to others.  I include an abundance of love and magic with each package shipped.  ;-D 

My fabric panels have reached a worldwide audience, and I've made many international friends because of them.  I love my job.

I like to wear small, decorative cross body bags especially when I travel, to keep the I.D. and tickets handy.  It's also great for hands-free shopping!  This one is my own design.  It's simple and fun to create because its flap has just enough room to embellish and add personal touches.  I used one of my fabric panels titled "Geisha" and added hand stitching, machine quilting and beads.  This was a fun project!

An easy fabric postcard to make using my Kindred Spirits fabric panel.

SIMPLE "HOW TO" INSTRUCTIONS:

Make a quilt sandwich: Fabric Panel, batting and medium weight stabilizer (I use Pellon).  Quilt it, embellish it, add text.  If adding beads, add it after all quilting and stitching is done.  Trim to 4" x 6".

Fuse backing fabric to above unit and trim to size.  Finish edges with your favorite binding.  You're Finished!

I added the following free motion stitched text to my postcard: love, joy, friends and kindred spirits.  The wings were embellished with angelina fibers.  The edges were finished with two rounds of zig zag stitching and one round of  repeated straight stitch using black thread. 

Make one . . . frame it or send it to one of your kindred spirits . . .
